Marc Márquez – Honda’s Star Rider

Marc Márquez has recently announced his departure from MotoGP after the Italian Grand Prix qualifying session. It’s a bold decision mid-season for the 29 year-old.

Márquez is a six time MotoGP World Champion; arguably one of the best the sport has ever had the pleasure watching. So what’s caused the Spaniard to take a step back?

He has decided to undergo his fourth surgery after an incident in 2020, fearing if he doesn’t, it’ll mark the end of his career. A very difficult scenario for such a successful sportsman, and young too.

He’s struggled with his upper right arm, and in the last few races he’s come off his bike quite hastily – an unusual sight. His form has been excellent over his career, so the fact that that he’s struggled this season has been a worry.

Although stepping back is a courageous move, there is also a line of question’s that comes next; Will he race again? Will he be back in top form? Will the shoulder havoc be behind him? Will he have to medically retire?

Márquez has admitted he’s been suffering – as I’d assume he would with limited movement, rotation, and stability in your shoulder (info from crash.net). It’s an admirable effort to have hung in there the last 18 months with all things considered.

The team at Honda Repsol seem supportive of the decision, thankful for his efforts over the season so far – and boy, have they been mighty.

Marc’s recovery will be one to follow closely over the coming months with curiosity and hope. He’s a motivated and extremely talented rider, and MotoGP is simply not the same without him on the grid.

Wish him well and am hopeful we’ll see him back next season in 2023.

I hope you enjoyed a quick over-view of the weekend’s recent MotoGP news. Until next time!
