There has been major rumours circling the paddock. This has only picked up with speculation over Alpine reserve driver Oscar Piastri (21) and the possibility of him snagging a seat in F1 next year, or potentially even sooner.
Piastri is a name that has been thrown around in the last twelve months, the Australian making waves with the talent he’s exploited in his career with the formula phases he’s participated in – winning all three championships in his rookie year. He’s a highly anticipated talent, almost everyone has their eyes on him and the next steps.
The noise surrounding the young gun has put the spotlight on Lance Stroll (23) and Nicholas Latifi (26), ramping up the pressure to perform. F1 is absolutely cut throat – making the drivers in the category all the more deserving of their seat. Without performance, a driver is simply not able to reward their team and show the load of talent they’re capable of.
The Williams and Aston Martin teams haven’t had the best run with Latifi and Stroll over the last season – costly mistakes often ending their weekends prematurely, or just ending in underwhelming results, and no points.
It’s already been confirmed by Alpine boss, Otmar Szafnauer (57) that Piastri will be in F1 next season. All of this raises the popular question; if the Canadian drivers don’t start performing, will their seat be no longer?
Another whirlwind of rumours has been surrounding Daniel Ricciardo (32) and the possible departure from McLaren due to some comments by CEO Zak Brown about the recent performance. Ricciardo has struggled to adapt to the car over the last two seasons.
However, the Australian honey badger has put these rumours to bed, ensuring he’s not going anywhere – now pulling the car into the points. An adjustment period is always needed to improve; something worth noting.
How do you think all will play out? Let me know in the comments.
Until next time!
