Tayla Talks: the home of your sporting news and needs

My Top Motorsport Podcast Picks

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of motorsport podcasts. I figured why not talk about my top picks; there’s so many that offer a valuable lot of information, conversation and interests. So let’s really narrow it down and chat about my favourites!

A bit of a less professional post this week on Tayla Talks. I really just wanted to shed some light on some of what I believe to be the most appealing podcasts – ones that simultaneously are my top picks. Some may inspire you, some may make you laugh, and others will really help you learn more about the industry.

Girls On The Grid Podcast by Priya Richards and Tenayah McLeod. This one is great for those looking to feel inspired by women in the motorsport industry and learn a little more about the roles you may be looking at chasing, and the people you look to for guidance. Priya and Tenayah both have their own career backstories which is touched on, but they also interview various women in all sorts of roles. Their podcast is the perfect pick for those who love to hear success stories, learning more about the names we hear in Australian motorsport and feel inspired. A favourite and my usual go to when I feel the need to hear from the women in the sport I desire to be apart of.

The Female Drive by Estelle Clapham. This podcast runs through a Grand Prix weekend, discussing and rating the races – pretty awesome. Estelle also interviews some individuals in motorsport, such as Matt Bishop, Jess Dane, and Samantha Leeks. It’s motivating to hear the stories of people in motorsport, the challenges and highlights of their careers within the industry. A great listen for those who are interested in hearing all about motorsport, Formula 1 and everything in between. Estelle gives a new point of view that isn’t often really taken into account, it’s a breath of fresh air. My go-to podcast while I’m pottering away and in need of some chilled sporting news and insight to listen to.

F1: Beyond The Grid with Tom Clarkson. A fantastic podcast that speaks with a large amount of personnel in Formula 1. There are so many inspiring people involved in the industry, however it points out all types of talent. My favourite episode to date is the one with Susie Wolff; talking about her way to F1 and why she set out to do what she has – eye opening and so inspiring. I was able to learn so much about her that I wasn’t aware of, as well as her successes in the motorsport world; giving me the motivation to take the next steps of my career. This podcast gives a new insight to those idols most people look to. The stories spoken about in this podcast are one of a kind, really showing the audience the personalities, mindsets and challenges that are behind the biggest names in Formula 1. Really cool stuff.

Talking Bull by RedBull Racing. I have to admit I love hearing from the drivers, I think most do. I love the relaxed vibes of this one. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez talking about their experiences and just genuinely enjoying the conversation is a nice change to their competitive natures. I think I enjoy hearing their perspectives directly; still in an interview setting but it’s genuinely just different to what we see during a race weekend. I thoroughly enjoy it.

Balls and Bumpers by RSN Racing and Sport, hosted by Jack Riedwoldt and Scott McLaughlin. This one is really in the name; bringing all sports news and issues from the two sportsmen and their take on it. I remember listening to this religiously as each episode came out when I was in year eleven and twelve. As someone who loves motorsport, I really enjoyed hearing McLaughlin’s life inside and outside of racing, gaining that perspective – especially since he was an idol from a super young age for me. This podcast is more selective of all sports, but I remember a few episodes I’d flat out listen to while dong multiple assignments during my HSC. It’s a fun and relaxed listen that will most likely make you smile, much like Talking Bull.

They’re my top picks! I hope you listen and feel connected to the industry just as much as I did!
