With the era-ending news that dropped yesterday with four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel (35), retiring from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season, speculation has begun.

Past weeks has seen Fernando Alonso (41) speak out stating “I’m not blocking the door” in regards to blocking side lined young drivers like Oscar Piastri (21), Robert Shwartzman (22), and Nyck De Vries (27) from gaining a race seat. We’ve also seen speculation about Daniel Ricciardo’s (33) future in the sport, to which he’s denied any movement away from the sport, or his current contract with McLaren. Things have been heating up as the talk of contracts and renewals start up.

But now with Vettel’s announcement, fans are already starting to question who would be his replacement at the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 team, and what other changes the field could see next season. Social media alight with ideas, rumours, and hopes from fans and followers. It can be assumed that this will be the new normal until all contracts are confirmed for 2023.

A lot of drivers have faced backlash and the third degree surrounding performance this season; especially with surprising underperformance from some at the start of the 2022 season. Lewis Hamilton (37) a big name that was heavily criticised in the midst of all the scrutiny. However each driver has shown that they’re still as competitive and capable as before, even if the cars performance isn’t at their liking.
