Inside the Belgian Grand Prix 2022

The summer break is officially over as we head into Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this weekend.

There’s been a few changes since last year, but the same wet forecast is to be expected. And, here at Tayla Talks, we’re hopeful it’ll run for more than one lap!

The historic track has two DRS detection zones (sectors 1 and 3), and a length of 7.004km. But the 44 lap race will look slightly altered since the last race in 2021.

The changes aim to make a safer track for drivers while keeping the same challenges for fans to enjoy.

Eau Rouge, the bottom of the hill, and Raidillon, the crest leading to the straight, are the most iconic parts of Spa-Francorchamps, but arguably the most dangerous. Impact with the barriers has seen cars spat back out into oncoming traffic, leaving no room for avoidance, and some scary close calls.

There have been major concerns ever since the fatal incident in 2019 with Formula 2 French driver Anthonie Hubert (22); and finally, the urgent calls for change have been received loud and clear. Eau Rouge/Raidillon have been extended to make more room incase of error out on track, making it safer for all incase of a shunt, according to Racing News 365.

The first ever Grand Prix took place here in 1950, making it one of Formula One’s most historic and iconic stops on the calendar.

The race weekend setup consists of the normal three Free Practice sessions, qualifying and the big banger on Sunday. A full on, exciting weekend as the Championship fight heats back up.

A new face pops in over FP1 this weekend for Scuderia AlphaTauri – New Zealander Liam Lawson (20), who adds to the ever flourishing mix of Formula 1. A thrilling addition!

It’s going to be an extremely exciting weekend as we get back into the swing of things. Contract announcements, tensions rising and the battle between Oracle RedBull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari for a Championship top step.

What are your predictions, and who do you think will come out on top? Leave your thoughts below!

Until next time,
