Welcome back to Tayla Talks. Today we’re discussing the announcement of F1 getting in touch with the F1 Academy, opening doors for female racing drivers and it is finally happening.
As of 2024 the F1 Academy will have cars on the grid from all 10 Formula 1 teams, with specialised liveries.
This makes massive headway for the future of women in Formula 1, creating relationships and opportunities to be seen, found, and scouted.
Currently in the F1 Academy paddock we have Prema Racing, Campos Racing, MP Motorsport, ART Grand Prix, and Rodin Carlin who all have three cars and three drivers, totalling to fifteen cars and drivers.
With Formula 1 becoming more hands on in the category, each current team will nominate one driver out of the current ten drivers to have a Formula 1 livery on their car.
The original teams that dominated F1 Academy will remain, but this opportunity gives female drivers room to grow and the hope to continue onwards in their racing careers.
Previously with W Series, there was no way for the drivers to get involved in Formula 1. They were consequently road blocked from gaining further opportunities and access to the F1 paddock.
This announcement further highlights the work being done behind the scenes in motorsport to equalise the opportunities for women in the sport.
With ten drivers being F1 team backed, the remaining five are set to be supported by other partners that will be announced in the weeks to come, with the final driver line up for next season announcements coming later this year.
The managing director of F1 Academy is the well-qualified, and insanely talented Susie Wolff (40). The current era we’re in is enabling young girls to feel inspired, enhancing the chapters ahead for the next generation.
Wolff stated, “This landmark moment not only demonstrates the depth of support for F1 Academy from across the F1 community but will inspire a whole generation of young girls to realise the opportunities both on and off track in motorsport.”
The excitement and hard work of women all around the world is vibrant, and all possibilities are now becoming reachable. Wolff wasn’t the only one to comment on the events, President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali (58), adding to the abundance of excitement circling.
“We created F1 Academy to bring about real and lasting change to ensure young female talent have the right system in place to follow and achieve their dreams.”

“In 2024 the F1 Academy will join our race calendar, raising the awareness and profile of the series globally and to have the F1 liveries on the grid will be something very special.” Domenicali finished.
We are in the era of change, where development and growth for female athletes is being supported by the Formula 1 community. This doesn’t only aid the athletes aspiring to race at such a high level, but it supports the young girls who often feel motorsport isn’t their place. Racing has no gender; it is for everyone.
Until next time,
