With many advancements made by incredible women in motorsport over the last few years, there has been more momentum forward in Formula One’s diversity.
It’s come to our attention that Esteban Ocon’s 2025 HAAS engineer is Laura Müllen, challenging the sexist history of motorsport by becoming the first F1 female race engineer.
This is a huge step forward for not only Formula One, but also motorsports worldwide, setting an example on what should be achievable for aspiring professional women in male dominated fields.
Whilst there have been women working in Formula One that we are familiar with, such as Hannah Schmidtz who is Red Bull Oracle’s Principal Strategy Engineer, Müllen will be the first woman to take a Race Engineer role in seventy-five years.
This news will only further push the agenda of equality and accessibility for future and current generations of women, disabled persons, and those from minority groups.
Diversity has been a common conversation across the small world of Formula One, with all ten teams agreeing to the latest diversity and inclusion policy created by the FIA late 2024.
A new generation of women and men will be inspired and encouraged to reach the prestigious world of Formula One, with its speed, technology, and networks finally in reach for people of all backgrounds.
Whilst it is a probable bid to engage their fans, grow the fanbase and audiences globally, it’s a promising attribute to Formula One and its future.
We can’t wait to see more boundaries overcome.
Until next time,
