The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Parramatta Eels clash was one to remember, with what was an excellent debut for new signing Lachlan Galvin.
Even with a positive weekend from the blue and white pack, two Bulldog’s players, Viliame Kikau and Daniel Suluka-Fifita were both handed hefty fines for Grade 1 Dangerous Contact on two seperate occasions throughout the game.
The main conversation surrounding penalties and a match-ban is none other than Parramatta’s very own fifth-eighth, Dylan Brown, facing suspension after an unfortunate, but unacceptable run in with on-field referee Gerard Sutton.
During the 26th minute, 24-year-old Brown made the error of mowing down Sutton in an attempt to pursuit what was a fantastic bomb by teammate Mitchell Moses. The incident saw a rough hit to the back of Sutton, sending the referee tumbling. Whilst not deliberate, the offence is still highly criticised in the eye of the NRL rulebook.
Dylan Brown, Parramatta Eels five-eighth star is now facing a serious 1-2 match ban after the run-in with the on-field ref at Accor Stadium, Sydney. Over the King’s Birthday long weekend, there were 9 players that were dished with a penalty resulting in a fine or match ban.
Brown isn’t the only one facing a match-ban, with two others under the North Queensland Cowboy’s, handed a charge of Grade 2 Dangerous Contact. This leaves John Bateman and Viliami Vailea sat out for the next few matches.

For Brown, the charge will see him cop a 1-match suspension, with the ability for an early plea which could result in a 2-match ban if he is unsuccessful in his challenge with the decision made by the judiciary.
The Kiwi representative is a powerhouse on the field, usually taking up the positions halfback and five-eighth. He’s played 124 games for the Eels, and is set to depart from the team at the end of 2025. His absence from the team, whether it be now due to the penalty, or when he eventually departs, will be felt massively.
Until next time,
