Lindsey Vonn horror crash at 2026 winter olympics

Lindsey Vonn had a sickening shunt last night, stopping the women’s downhill race for 20 agonising minutes as coverage picked up her screams of pain as she lay still, with help coming to her aid.

Vonn admitted she had 100% torn her ACL 9 days prior to the competition in Switzerland, but still eager to compete and potentially land her last claim at a Olympic Medal at 41-years-old, reshaping women’s sport.

In a horrific incident, she caught a gate midair while hitting a jump, which flung her off her race line, violently hitting the snow while her skis failed to let go of her feet.

Spectators and commentators worldwide watched on horrified by the events, the crash nauseating in the minutes unfolding for Vonn to be airlifted.

After 15 minutes of tending to by medical staff, Vonn was airlifted by helicopter to receive further medical attention.

The USA Olympian is already known as a legendary figure in the skiing world, her success unmatched and seriously incredible.

“I’ve built a great life outside of skiing, but there will never be anything like skiing,” said Vonn in October 2025.

“I fully understand that, and I’m comfortable with that. but I’m definitely going to enjoy this last bit of adrenaline, because I won’t get it back.” she finished.

American teammate Breezy Johnson won gold half an hour later, issuing her heartfelt wishes.

“My heart goes out to her, I hope its not as bad as it looked,

“I know how difficult it is to ski this course and how sometimes, because you love this course so much, it hurts that much worse. My heart just goes out to her.” said Johnson.

Vonn has allegedly undergone surgery to stabilise a fractured leg. It is not yet clear if there were further injuries sustained.
